ANUWFC 0 - Canberra United 1
The last game of the weekend was played at ANU South Oval, where Canberra United Academy got the three points against ANU WFC winning 1-0. An inspired half-volley from Riley McQueenie early in the second half allowed the players in green to keep some hope for post-season.
Although ANU tried to impose their style at home, they found themselves often having to favour counter attacks. The Academy settled in their possession play early on, and kept it up for the whole first half, leaving crumbs to their opponents. If they were not able to really threaten Claire Joseph in these 45 minutes, they created more than enough chance to deserve taking the lead before the hour mark.
A cross from the right, cleared by the ANU defence, landed in McQueenie’s area. The full back had to resist a defender to get to the ball and proceeded to connect almost perfectly with it. Her powerful shot flew just past Joseph’s gloves, landing under the crossbar.
The rest of the game saw the Academy in control, and ANU’s best chances came from a distance, but Eliza Evans was vigilant. Sofia Christopherson had opportunities to seal the deal for her team, but always found Joseph in her path.

ANUWFC 4 - Weston Molonglo 1
Our return to Weston’s good old potato farm.
Our squad was very stretched from lots of injuries and players away. We won (sorry I’m battling the flu atm so I’m struggling with memory) and Ash F scored a brace, V scored a banger, and Ash C smacked one past the keeper.
Char and Taylar both combined to assist Weston’s striker! All in all proud of us.

ANUWFC 5 - Majura Swans 0
Five start performance after a tough loss last week. Team was brilliant in the second half and managed the game well to see a win, including a clean sheet!
Goals from Suk (Bronte assist), Esperance (Hannah), Hannah (Bronte), Suk, and Sophie (Leila).

Full credit to the opposition who turned up to play and were the better team in the first half. The two opportunities they had to score they slotted home.
Our second half was strong which is a reversal of the season to date. We were down to ten players for a period due to injuries, however, everyone lifted and held strong until we were back to a full complement of players.
There were lots of good interchange of passing out of the backline and through the middle which led to a couple of chances. I could not separate four players for play of the match. Emma F, Emma S, Lauren M, and Molly L. All very strong in their respective positions.

Looking for our first win at South Oval. We went into our game vs Woden with optimism. But with 13 players, 5 of them backing up from a game before hand on a warm day. It was always going to be tough. Woden had the kick off & scored in under 30seconds.
Another goal at the 3rd minute mark to Woden in the same circumstances. Put us down 2. After that it went pretty evenly. With a lot of ball possession on both sides. What looked like a tired missed clearance at the end of the 1st cost us another goal.
With tiredness creating in. The team dug deep in the 2nd to keep a clean sheet. Despite a player having to leave early for work & another getting injured. Leaving us with no bench. In the end if you took out the first 5mins it was a very even & free flowing game.
