CAPITAL LEAGUE 2026

We will look to again have teams across all Capital League division 1 (high level, competitive) to division 6 (more social / beginner).

Playing Capital League in 2026
Capital League trials will commence early in 2026. If you're interested in trialing to play for ANUWFC in 2026, click here to fill out the expression of interest form. Please note: both new and returning players need to complete this form.
A schedule for trials, including times and locations, will be published as soon as it's finalised.
We will not be fielding an NPLW team in 2026.
Trials FAQs
I've never played soccer before, or haven't played in years - can I trial?
Of course! Any female-identifying (cis or trans) or non-binary person is welcome to come trial. We have teams across all divisions, from Div 1 to Div 6. Due to limitations on numbers, we cannot guarantee a spot in any team, however.
What division should I trial for?
Chat with the coaches or committee when you arrive at trials, and throughout - they will help you identify a suitable division. You are welcome to change your trial division at any time, just please communicate your movement with the coaches so they are aware.
In terms of the divisions themselves:
-
Capital League Women's (CLW - formerly known as State League) is the competitive women's football league in the ACT.
-
Divisions 1 and 2 are our most competitive teams and are a good place to start if you've played for a number of years, and/or at a higher level previously.
-
Divisions 3 and 4 are competitive, but slightly less so and with a bigger focus on enjoyment. This is a good place to start if you've played in the past, but perhaps not as high as the top leagues.
-
Divisions 5 and 6 are the lowest in the Capital League, but are still competitive. This is a good place to start if you are new or relatively inexperienced to the sport (but keen to learn!).
What are coaches looking for when chosing their teams?
Check out the ANUWFC Selection Guide for detailed info about what the coaches and committee are looking for in trialing players. Some notable criteria include technique, upholding ANUWFC values (inclusivity, sportspersonship, community focus, and support for our players and coaches), mindset, and communication.
Do I have to attend all trial sessions?
Attendance at as many trial sessions as possible is highly encouraged, as this allows our coaches the best opportunity to assess your playing skills, attitude, and commitment. If you are unable to attend a trial session(s), we encourage you to communicate this to the coaches running your trials sessions. While not part of the selection criteria, trial attendance and communication of any trial absences will be an additional consideration for coaches when making selections.
I am not able to make trials, can alternative arrangements be made?
Due to demand exceeding places in teams and for fairness of all those trialing, we do not have alternative arrangements to be placed in a team. It is necessary for our coaches to see you in person to assess you against the selection criteria.
While we highly encourage attendance at as many trial sessions as possible, we understand that there may be valid reasons limiting your participation. If you have a justifiable explanation for attending only a specific number of sessions, this will be taken into consideration in the selection process.
How much will it cost to play?
2026 costs have not been finalised, however in 2025, registration fees were as follows:
Students = $398
Non-students = $593
These costs cover your registration with Capital Football and ANU Sport (if you're not a student / ANU Sport member), club fees, insurance, field hire, referees, and the equipment you'll use at training and in games.
If cost is an issue, we have some financial support available through the Heather Reid Bursary, and a payment plan option to split the cost into four payments. Information about these options will be released early in 2026.
If I make a team, when will training be, and do I have to attend all trainings?
Trainings are held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Last season there was a 6pm-7:30pm and a 7:30pm-9pm slot on each night. It is expected that you attend at least 50% of training sessions (i.e. at least once a week). However, different coaches may have different expectations for their teams.
Uniforms / kits
The basic compulsory equipment of a player includes:
-
A jersey: ANUWFC will supply players with a jersey for the season. If undergarments are worn, the colour of the sleeve must be the same main colour as the sleeve of the jersey or shirt.
-
Shorts: ANUWFC plays in royal blue shorts that can be purchased from the club or from a sports clothing store. If undershorts or tights are worn, they must be the same main colour of the shorts.
-
Socks: Royal blue socks can be purchased from the club or from a sports clothing store. If tape or similar material is applied externally it must be the same colour as that part of the stockings it is applied to.
-
Shin guards
-
Studded boots
You'll be provided your jersey by the club, but must supply the rest of your own kit.
Game days, fixtures, and results
All women's games are played on Sundays. Some games will be at our home ground on the ANU campus, and others at opposition home grounds.
In 2026, the season will start on 12 April and finish on 16 August, with finals to follow.
There are no games on 19 July.
Kick off times are the same each week, and will depend on your division. We will update this page as soon as we have confirmed division times, however last season times were as follows:
10am: Divisions 3 and 6
12pm: Divisions 2 and 5
2pm: Divisions 1 and 4.
Your coach will no doubt ask you to come early to warm up and talk tactics, and every coach has their own preferences when it comes to arrival times. Make sure you check arrival time, and allow for travel time!
Throughout the season, there are some non-game weekends. Games may also be postponed or cancelled due to wet weather, so keep an eye on the Capital Football website, and your team's group chat on game days.
Game information such as fixtures, results, and ladders can be found on the Dribl website and app. We recommend you also download the Dribl app for quick and easy access to your team's info!
Team communications
All teams will setup a group chat with players and coaches. Having a group chat is important to organise social activities, drinks after the game, and letting everyone know of last minute changes on training or game days for you or your team!
Injuries and insurance
Unfortunately injuries can happen. Please see the Player welfare page for information about what happens if you become injured.
Player welfare
If something in your team or around the club doesn't feel right, the first point of contact is always your coach. If you think your coach is not able to resolve the issue, is unwilling to do so, or you don't feel comfortable speaking to them about it, please contact our Player Welfare Officer, Charlotte, at training or via anuwfcplayerwelfare@gmail.com.
All communication will be kept confidential and we will check with you before disclosing the information you provide to anyone else. See the Player welfare page for more information about welfare.
Our coaches
Our coaches are central to our community, creating a space where players feel valued and are encouraged to bring their best selves each week. The impact they make at the Club lasts well beyond each season, building memories and a legacy of positivity and growth. In 2025, our delightful coaches were:
