ABOUT US

Established in 1978, ANU Women’s Football Club is the oldest women's football club in the ACT. We were founded by a bunch of ANU staff who decided to create the first women's only football club in Canberra.

We have been led by women and for women since inception, and have been participating in ACT state league community competitions for nearly 45 years. We are open to female and non-binary members of the community - there's no need to be an ANU student to come and play!

In 2022, we had 11 teams representing the club in all 6 ACT State League divisions, and we expect similar in Season 2023. Excitingly, we will also field an NPWL and NPLW Reserves team for the first time.

We are a strong force in the Capital Football Women's State League competitions, placing a team in the final or semi-finals in most seasons. Our success is built on our strong belief in community, sports(wo)manship, player and coach excellence, and our commitment to providing all our members a safe and inclusive environment.

Over the years, we’ve seen more than 3,500 female and non-binary players at the club, and we’ve provided a friendly and inclusive environment in which they can participate in football.

In 2023, we will increase our team numbers, focus on reducing player injury, and foster productive relationships with local businesses who share our vision of supporting women in the ACT – helping them to develop into strong members of our Canberra community.

Our main areas of focus for 2023 are our 45th anniversary and our promotion to the National Premier League Women’s Competition (NPLW). We will also work on attracting more female coaches and referees – filling availability gaps and closing the gender disparity in positions of power.

The ANUWFC provides women from across Canberra with a safe, supportive, and friendly environment. Whether they're a first-time player, a highly skilled semi-professional, or a member of our alumni community, there’s a place at the ANUWFC.
