Statement on ANUWFC's National Premier League team

It is with great sadness that ANU Women’s Football Club has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the 2025 NPLW competition at the end of May 2025.

We have experienced a range of unforeseeable challenges, including with injuries, limited numbers without a junior pathway, and the complexities of operating in the NPL environment. These meant we could no longer consistently participate in the competition without players taking on excessive load and risking injury. With careful thought and heavy hearts, we have made the decision to prioritise the welfare of our players.

We are supporting our players through this transition and are working closely with them to facilitate their next steps.

ANUWFC was promoted to the NPL in 2023 given our strong performance in Division 1. Taking up this opportunity aligned with our club’s commitment to player development and creating opportunities for women and non-binary people to play football in a fun, respectful and accessible environment. We are incredibly proud of our players, our safe and inclusive culture, and of our accessible and equitable fees. We have been proud to showcase our club’s unique offerings at the highest-level competition in the ACT. However, player welfare will always be our highest priority, and we will not compromise this.

We are grateful for Capital Football’s support, and will continue liaising with them and all our stakeholders throughout the transition. We will be working with other clubs across the ACT football community to enable players to continue their football journeys in the manner they wish after our season has concluded.
